Guaranteed minimum pension (GMP) reconciliations can be strangely satisfying. There is almost a puzzle-like quality to the feeling of comparing two sets of data and getting exact matches, then dividing the non-matches into groups and working out what’s happened. There’s a satisfying eureka moment when you realise that a big group of members missing from the HM Revenue and Custom (HMRC) data were all part of the same bulk transfer years ago, and can be sorted out in one tidy query spreadsheet to HMRC.
